Behind the Brand: Skin Worldwide

Over the past few years, loungewear has become a major fashion category. We’re not just wearing our sweats, silky pajamas, and organic cotton bralettes while hanging out around the house—they’ve been incorporated into cool looks you can wear out and about as well! That said, you’ll want to invest in quality pieces that will last. Enter Skin Worldwide, a brand that specializes in beautiful and sustainably made sleepwear, loungewear, and intimates.

Skin Worldwide has been a favorite in The Shoppe for a while now, but we were thrilled to expand our partnership by including one of its signature pieces in our Spring Curation! The silky gold eye mask that’s included in this collection of vacation-inspired products will help you get your beauty sleep wherever you are (jet-setting to a spring break destination, napping during a luxury staycation, or just snoozing in your own bed!), and we know it’s going to elevate all your seasonal plans.

In honor of this partnership, we wanted to give you some more insight into the brand. So, we chatted with founder Susan Beischel, who shared what inspired her to create Skin in the first place, plus why her sustainable mission is so important, and where she wants to take her eye mask for a little R&R! Read it all ahead, and if you have yet to sign up for our curations, starting with the latest spring assortment, make sure you do so HERE—as this box is only available in limited quantity! Additionally, we went ahead and shopped out a few of our favorite Skin pieces in The Shoppe, so you can complete your own stylish loungewear look!

What space were you looking to fill in the loungewear category when you dreamed up Skin?
I wanted to show women that cotton and natural materials can be sexy, too. There just wasn’t one way to show up and be called sexy. I think women are sexy with no makeup, and just natural, and just rolling out of bed. At the time I couldn’t find lingerie that was comfortable, that was soft enough, that wasn’t itchy, or poking me. I just wanted to feel like me.

How would you describe the brand’s offering in just three adjectives?
Comfortable, sophisticated, sensual.

Can you share the ways Skin focuses on sustainability? Why was this important to you when building the brand?
Since the beginning I have always worked with small family-owned factories. Together we have shared birthday parties, school graduations, and our successes. I also had a personal value of health, and that had to be a part of my brand. We have always used organic cotton as a foundation to our collection, as I believe what you put on your skin is absorbed, and organic cotton is grown without toxic carcinogenic pesticides.

I didn’t want the workers who picked our cotton, or the spinners who made the fabric, or the sewers who touch the materials to absorb these chemicals. It wasn’t something I spoke about in the beginning, it was just an added benefit customers received and I knew I was doing the right thing.

How has Skin evolved since you first launched?
Some of our original designs are still our bestsellers. Our core values remain the same, but our distribution has become much larger and more global. I am so grateful to have women all over the world who desire and appreciate minimal, comfortable, healthy, and sensual designs.

What are some plans you have for the brand’s future?
We will be opening stores, and continue to add healthy product categories.

We are so thrilled to include the Eye Mask in our Spring Curation, which was inspired by travel. What dream vacation would you take it on this season?
Oh I absolutely love adventure. I just returned from the We Care Spa in Desert Springs CA, where I started my year 2023 by detoxifying my body and mind. I love to start the new year out in this way, giving myself space and time, preparing myself for all the goals and visions I want to create. It’s important to take care of your physical body in this way, and you actually detox emotions and stored thoughts too!
